To the Thinking Deeply Community: A Heartfelt Thank You
When I first began writing on Thinking Deeply just nine months ago, it was a personal experiment, a quiet effort to give voice to the reflections I had long shared among family, friends, and fellow activists. I never imagined that what started as a modest platform for thoughtful conversation would grow into the vibrant and wide-reaching community we now share. Today, after over 240 discussions here, Thinking Deeply includes over 200 followers and more than 150 subscribers, stretching not only from coast to coast across the United States but also reaching readers in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. To each and every one of you, thank you.
Your willingness to return here regularly, to read, reflect, and occasionally respond, means more to me than you know. In a world saturated with noise, quick takes, and endless distractions, the fact that so many of you choose to pause here—to think deeply with me—is humbling and inspiring. This is more than a newsletter. It is a conversation, a shared space for thoughtful inquiry, mutual respect, and the honest wrestling with the questions of our time.
Why I Write—and Why It’s Always Free
I have written before about why I started Thinking Deeply, and I will not repeat all those reasons here. But at the core is this belief: we need more spaces in our public life where depth is valued over volume, where the goal is understanding rather than domination, where thinking is not merely about scoring points but about seeking truth, healing, and possibility.
Equally important to me is the principle that these conversations should be freely accessible to all. I do not, and will not, charge for subscriptions. I believe ideas should be shared, not gated behind a paywall. If you know friends, family members, colleagues, or fellow travelers who would appreciate our reflections, please invite them to follow or subscribe. Let them know that all subscriptions are, and will remain, completely free. The only thing I ask in return is your openness, your engagement, and your willingness to join the conversation.
Your Voice Matters Here
While I write many of these short essays as responses to events, patterns, or concerns that move me, I write them for you, for our community. And so I would love to hear more from you. If a post resonates with you, challenges you, or raises a question in your mind, please comment and share your thoughts. There is wisdom in this community, and I hope to hear more of it.
Likewise, if there are topics you’d like to see addressed—issues you’re grappling with, moments in history that deserve reflection, moral and political dilemmas that deserve examination—please don’t hesitate to let me know. The most meaningful conversations are those that grow from shared curiosity and collective concern.
A Community Worth Building
We are living through times that often feel unmoored—politically, morally, environmentally, and spiritually. But I believe, with all my heart, that communities like this one can offer a model for how we might reweave the fabric. We are, after all, not alone. Across borders and backgrounds, we can think together, feel together, and act together.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for thinking deeply. Thank you for believing, as I do, that what we do here—what we think and discuss here—matters.
With gratitude and hope,
Bruce

Thank you for your gracious words.
In this time of blatant greed, corruption, economic failure, an illegal government with a rogue President promoting blatant Evil, all of US should be thinking deeply or at least beyond “what’s for dinner tonight”. Substack enforces paid subscriptions and frankly, I find error in that particularly in this time when Media has fallen to propaganda and dirty dollars. You are to be commended for publishing whatever you think freely to anyone who can read. It only takes one person to change anything anywhere—be proud of your efforts! Kudos to you! Take a bow and keep on writing and thinking and rewriting and rethinking! As for me, I will keep on reading and be thankful.
